Second 2022 S.D. Derecho hits Garretson

During final deadlines for the Gazette on Tuesday, July 5th, Garretson was hit by another massive thunderstorm, starting at around 3:45 p.m. The storm lasted till after 5 p.m. with torrential rainfall and winds, knocking out power in Garretson. Post storm, the Gazette Staff took this photo at 4th Street and Canyon Avenue.

The storm was officially termed a derecho on Wednesday, as it covered 720 miles and had winds exceeding 70-99 miles per hour. Garretson received between 4-4.85 inches of rain in less than an hour, causing flash flooding.

Below, Andy Lyngen’s crew had just started excavation on his property lot on Center Avenue. Then the storm hit, with the results that you see here.
