Garretson Fire Department gives annual awards to son and father

Date:

Last year’s fireman of the year and Assistant Fire Chief Dan Wagner presented this year’s award for Fireman of the Year to Jake Tyrrell.
New Fire Chief Jeff Frerk with Steve's Electric gave the business of the year award Brian Tyrrell of Jesse James Country Store.

The Garretson Fire Department had their annual dinner and ball on Saturday, Jan. 27. Fire Chief Mark Roseboom broke down the year in review for those attending.

“This year we answered 139 calls and our average response time was ten and a half minutes,” he said. “We had 537 on scene hours and 629 training hours. It works out to about 87 hours per member of our fire department and if time is money, and we use the state model of what volunteer hours are worth then our members donated forty-five thousand dollars of their time to their community this year.” (Continued on Page 2 of our online edition)
