Sean McBride at “O” So Good This Friday

Date:

"O" So Good is still going strong. Three months in and this week they're planning on having potentially their biggest event yet.

Sean McBride to Perform at "O" So Good

This Friday the 13th Comedy night will feature Sean McBride, formerly of NFL Network, and has been a featured comedian on Showtime, Hulu, and starred in National Lampoon's "Dirty Jokes: The Movie."

Local Comedians Luke Johnson and Dan Bublitz Jr. as host will also perform. But as always, at Omar's, the real star will be the food.

"People have been asking me to do a big Seafood Boil for a while now, and I hope to impress," said Omar Thornton, star chef and owner of "O" So Good as he shared the upcoming menu with the Gazette. The three-course meal will start with Grilled Tuna on an Asian bun with a fresh from the farm spinach salad with a butter vinaigrette topped with fresh tomatoes (produce provided by Tillford Rye Farms, featured in last week's issue.) The second course seafood boil itself with feature shrimp, crabmeat, sausage, and potatoes, all covered in a seafood broth. For desert, sweet potato pie!

"I was really pleased to read about Jeremy's farm in last week's paper," Thornton said. "His crops are excellent. Good cooking comes from good ingredients, and I know my customers have enjoyed it too."

"Now, you might also want to know that we'll be changing our menus, keeping some favorites, but adding some new things as well. We've only been at this for about three months now, so we're still finding out what works, what doesn't, what people like and what people want to have."

As an example, his hours of operation have fluctuated based upon diners and demand. Thornton said he's used social media to try to keep the public up on any changes to the schedule. As of right now he's doing coffee and treats every weekday, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Dinner hours on the weekdays are from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday to Friday. Saturday Lunch is 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with Dinner also from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Right now, Sunday Brunch is from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., though he said that's likely to change very soon.

"When we start with our new menu, we'll plan also to start new hours for Sunday. Only a trickle of customers, or none at all come over at 9 a.m. When we get busy is noon and afterward. So instead of Sunday Brunch, we're going to go to the old time idea of a Sunday Supper, when you'd have a big meal in the afternoon after Church. Right now I'm thinking noon until about 4:30. And that will be coming soon, after our new menus debut."

"Now, since we've started our restaurant area has been our primary focus, and the coffee and treats a side venture," he said. "Our plan is to start expanding that in the future to include fresh bagels. We're also experimenting with flavored coffees, smoothies and iced coffee and slushy drinks. So you'll be able to come over and start your morning out right at "O" So Good."

"People have been asking me also if we could do a beer night, since we proudly feature local brewers Fernson Beer... So for Halloween, we're going to have an Adults only Beer Dinner/Halloween Party. Costumes optional, just no one under 21 allowed. Our Menu will feature a BBQ! More details will be coming soon."
