Lorna Sunde

Lorna Irene Sunde, age 90, of Baltic, formerly of the Sherman/Garretson area, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Baltic Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural Garretson. Memorials may be directed to the Norway Lutheran Cemetery.

Lorna was born on September 22, 1933, to N. Oliver and Irene L. Swenson. She grew up near Garretson and attended school in Sherman and Garretson.  She graduated from Garretson High School in 1951. On November 23, 1951, she married Orville Sunde at Garretson. They lived and farmed west of Sherman. Lorna worked at the Fashion Corner in Dell Rapids and Palisade Manor in Garretson. Orville died on September 15, 1995. Following Orville’s death, Lorna moved into Garretson and later moved to Baltic.

Lorna was a past member of Norway Lutheran Church, rural Garretson, First Lutheran Church in Sherman, and was a current member of Baltic Lutheran Church. She enjoyed dancing and gardening. 

Survivors include her children: Lindell (Virginia) Sunde, Charlotte, NC and Cindy (Terry) Van Conant, Watertown; grandchildren: Thomas Van Conant, Trevor Van Conant, Adam Van Conant, Christopher Sunde, and Jonathan Sunde; great-grandchildren: Oliver, Ruby, Arthur, Max, Sam, William, Charles, Olliver, Penelope, and Violet; sisters: Marleen Swenson, Madison, and Jean Den Herder, Sioux Falls; and her special friend, Rodney Docken, Baltic. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville; and a sister, LaVonne Sorenson.
