Obituary: Judy Lynn Sievert, age 62

Judy Lynn Sievert, age 62, of Garretson, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will begin at 10:30 AM Friday, May 2, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church building fund.

Judy was born on August 26, 1962, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Tom and Lavonne (McClure) Willems. She lived on a farm near Garretson in Minnesota until moving into to town at a young age. She attended school in Garretson and graduated from Garretson High School in 1980. On October 12, 1985, she married Darwin Sievert and they had two daughters, Lindsay and Darcy. Judy worked for the grocery store until beginning to work for First Bank and Trust in 1994. Judy and Darwin lived in town until moving to their acreage west of town in 1997. They moved back into town in 2015. Darwin passed away on July 27, 2018. Judy retired from the bank in January of 2025. 

Judy was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Garretson. In later years, she enjoyed camping with Darwin at Stoney Point Campground on Lake Benton where she enjoyed meeting and visiting with new people. But most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Judy is survived by her daughters: Lindsay (Brett) Suiter, Basin, WY and Darcy (Ryan) Mennenga, Harrisburg, SD; step-children: Chad (Amy) Sievert, Colorado Springs, CO, and Kari (Nicholas) Johnson, Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren: Hannah, Olivia, Elijah, Lanee, and Emily Suiter, and Adalyn, Nora, and Morgan Mennenga; step-grandchildren:  Cole, Taylor, and Cade Sievert, and James Johnson; special friend, Jeff Petterson, Jasper; siblings: Mark Willems, Madison SD, Mary (Brian) Parr, New Ipswich, NH, Janet Tyrrell, Garretson, Nancy (John) Brandsma, Brandon SD, Daniel (Lisa) Willems Garretson, and David (Kelley) Willems, Frankfort, KY; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Dale Sievert, parents, Tom and Lavonne Willems, and a sister, Cheryl McKenna.
