Obituary: James “Jim” Adams, 72

Jim Adams

            James "Jim" Robert Adams, age 72, of Brandon, formerly of Garretson, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, surrounded by his four children. Services are pending for Friday, July 14, 2023, in Garretson.

            Jim was born on January 13, 1951, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, to Robert and Dorothy (Wiegman) Adams. He grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1969. While in high school, he set the school discus throwing record that stood for many years. Following his graduation, Jim entered the United States Air Force. He served in Alaska and was honorably discharged at the rank of staff sergeant. After his service he married Christine Compton and had four children. They lived in Sioux Falls, California, Baltic, and Garretson. Jim moved to Brandon a few years ago.

            Jim worked for many years at Yellow Freight as a truck driver. He spent countless days at the family cabin at Lake Madison. He loved airplanes, sailboats, fishing, antique shopping, attending auctions, or just going for a ride. He was a member of the Garretson American Legion and a past member of the Baltic Volunteer Fire Department.

            Survivors include his children: Chrystal (Jason) Schulte, Parker, Kayla (Nick) Thepboury, Sioux Falls, Hannah (Ben) Weiss, Brandon, and Clayton Adams, Garretson; grandchildren: Jillian and Everly Schulte, Kate, Reese, and Indie Thepboury, and Kyra, Roman, Vivian, and Carson Weiss; sister: Barb Adams, Brookings; and a good friend, Tom Mullaney, Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
