Letter to the Editor: To the Garretson American Legion

Date:

            To the Garretson American Legion:

The family of James D. Croston, a 50-year continuous member of the Garretson American Legion is writing to express our sincere gratitude for their military salute on November 28, 2023 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls.  To have a military salute from members of the town in which my father grew up was very meaningful to our family and, I am sure, to him.  My father described with great pride all the happy years he experienced while growing up in Garretson, and many of the members of the Honor Guard knew him and were kind enough to speak with us after the ceremony.

While my father was an educator and principal in the Sioux Falls school system, his connection to Garretson and the Garretson chapter of the American Legion was strong and remained very important to him throughout his life.  Thank you again for the honor of your military salute and for your presence at our father’s funeral!  The Croston family will be forever grateful.

-Kevin J. Croston, M.D.
