This coming week, both Garretson and Sherman will be cleaning up.
From May 2 until May 6, Sherman residents will be able to get rid of their junk. For drop-off details, contact Gerry Karpen. However, no mattresses, tires, electronics, or household garbage will be accepted.

On Saturday, May 3, the City of Garretson, Garbage N More, and Springdell 4-H are partnering for the 2025 Citywide Cleanup Day. This day is a time when all Garretson residents are encouraged to bring the items that are normally too unwieldy or too large to dispose of in the regular garbage. All items can be brought to Garbage N More, located at 708 Nordstrom Avenue between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. There, people will be stationed to direct drivers and help off-load items.
Furniture, appliances, and painted wood will be accepted. Mattresses, box springs, and tires will be accepted for a charge (tires must be off-rim). The charge for mattresses and box springs are $20 each and tires are $6 each. Appliances do not have an extra charge.
However, there are some limitations. Hazardous waste, such as wet paint, electronics, lawn chemicals, and yard waste will not be accepted.
Hazardous waste can be brought to the Hazardous Waste Facility located at 1015 E Chambers Street in Sioux Falls. Yard waste, such as leaves, branches, and grass clippings can be brought to the Garretson Branch Pile, located south of town along 254th Street (east of the golf course). Branches should be placed in the branch pile, while grass clippings and leaves should be placed in the dumpsters (no plastic bags).
For those needing help with junk relocation, Springdell 4-H will transport your items for a donation. Pre-registration is required by calling or texting (605) 782-9075 or emailing .
