Garretson 16U players Buettner & Jessen make the Class B All Star Team

Date:

On Sunday, August 18, two Garretson 16U baseball players participated in the VFW All-Star games in Humboldt, joining fellow players from teams on the east half of the state.

Cole Jessen and Ian Buettner were each chosen for the Class B All Star team, playing against the Class A team in two rounds of play. Class B won the first round 4-0, but lost in the second round 1-3.

"Cole played one inning as pitcher [in the first game], striking out all three Class A batters he faced," said 16U Coach Kylie Buettner. "[He] had an excellent outing on the mound for the 16B All Stars. Every pitcher threw 1 inning. Cole struck out all 3 of the VFW A batters that he faced. Excellent job against some of the top hitters in the state!"

Ian Buettner played center field in the first game. At the top of the first inning in Game One Buettner grounded out to the second baseman, sending teammate Braxton Allen of Baltic over home base, garnering the first point of the game.

Coach Buettner commented, "Ian had a couple of good at bats in the games. Going long counts and hitting the ball hard on a line - the outfield just made good plays on the ball!"

During the second game, Jessen grounded into a fielder's choice but was unable to reach home at the bottom of the fourth.

Garretson's Cole Schleuter (catcher) was chosen for an Honorable Mention.

"Schlueter did an excellent job for Garretson behind the plate this year and earned his Honorable Mention as one of the best catchers in the state!" said Coach Buettner.
