We continue to run the insurance statements, which list the insurance company's assets, liabilities, business in South Dakota for the year and the lines in which the company is authorized by the state of South Dakota to sell insurance. There are also several pieces of information from Minnehaha County in the legals section, which is provided to you each week to keep all in the public informed.

Issue #19 Full Version (subscription required)

This week's issue covers the most recent City Council meeting, congratulates a high school student for academic excellence, applauds the high school golf team for receiving top honors at the Big East Conference, and more.

We continue to run the insurance statements, which list the insurance company's assets, liabilities, business in South Dakota for the year and the lines in which the company is authorized by the state of South Dakota to sell insurance. What this means for you is that we get to cover much more news and features, which is wonderful as we've had many items which have had to wait due to running out of space in each week's newspaper!

Issue #18 Full Version (subscription required)

This week, we feature a long-time employee of the Garretson School District, Reid Nelson, who has been driving bus for 23 years, honor a local businesswoman who won the Women's Choice Award, update the community on some burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of April 28, receive some lawn care tips, and much, much more. This month's papers are going to be beefy as we run the insurance statements, which list the insurance company's assets, liabilities, business in South Dakota for the year and the lines in which the company is authorized by the state of South Dakota to sell insurance. What this means for you is that we get to cover much more news and features, which is wonderful as we've had many items which have had to wait due to running out of space in each week's newspaper!

In this issue: Under the leadership of teacher Jodi Neugebauer, the second graders celebrated Earth Day last Friday by planting 125 trees around town. The Prairie Rose Community Fund continued its support of the community by providing a grant to the Garretson Area Historical Society, which is fund raising to replace windows in the museum. Garretson City-Wide Cleanup on April 29 & 30

Each year, Garretson beautifies itself by providing areas for local residents to get rid of clutter. This week Friday and Saturday, haul your unwanted items and junk to a designated dumpster and help clean up our town! The dumpsters will be located at the County Building on the corner of Essex & Railroad and open Friday from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The city branch pile will be open Saturday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

So what is allowed? You can bring anything except everyday garbage, paint cans, electronics, lawn chemicals, tires, and unpainted construction wood or branches (dispose of branches at the city branch pile). You can bring furniture, mattresses ($5 charge each), and painted wood. Appliances will be accepted for $10 each and car batteries are also allowed. These two items cannot be placed in dumpsters. The branch pile is located south of town near River Ridge Golf Course and will accept yard waste such as branches, grass clippings, and shubbery.

Please keep in mind that after hours drop offs will not be allowed, and the dumpsters are provided for Garretson/Sherman residents only. Non residents may drop off yard waste at the branch pile for $5.

For questions, call 594-6721 or 594-6723.

This week's issue filled us in on the Garretson School Music department, which just returned from a successful competition in Chicago. Both Choir and Band participants scored well in the contest, as well as other competitions in the area last month. The school board also discusses the next step with the daycare alliance, which is looking to purchase the land that the old bus barn is on. Prairie Rose Community Fund provided three grants, two to the school and one to the Sherman Parks initiative. We also get a look at the first track and baseball results of the season. This issue is packed!

Should Garretson welcome a Dollar General with open arms, or should there be some hesitation? Garretson wants business, but is this the type that will help the community move forward or hinder it? These are some of the questions asked in this week's issue of The Gazette. GHS Wrestler Brady Schleuter signs with DWU's wrestling team for the 2016-17 school year, and students attend the FFA Invitational. We also invite you to join Bert Danielson for his retirement party at CHS Eastern Farmers on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Again, thank you to the generosity of our advertisers for a color issue for the third week in a row! We may have to be careful, or you may start to take it for granted! 🙂 It is our hope to eventually have the website/on-line edition to be full color all the time, as a perk for an on-line purchase. Watch for that to happen soon! Click on the link above to register for your on-line subscription today, and receive your paper by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays!

Issue #13 Full Version (subscription required)

This week we feature a local lady who does mission work through her music and lemon bars, Doreen Rollag, and a legionnaire who was at the infamous battle of Hamburger Hill, Jim Clark. Also Dollar General wants to come to open a store in Garretson, so the question is, do we want them to? Discuss. Here are some photos. As for copies of the Garretson Gazette there few, if any, left in local retail stores. Family members of those folks featured this week purchased everything we put on the shelves, so... if you were on the fence about getting an online subscription to the Garretson Gazette, you should hop that fence and get it delivered to you that way. If you already have a regular subscription, it only takes $15 to upgrade to having both.
