Doug grew up on a family homestead South of Garretson and raised his kids in this community. He loved Garretson and the folks that lived here. He was a proud member of the Garretson Jaycees & slow pitch softball team, Garretson City Council, and held the Mayor seat from 2000-2004.

His wife, Marilyn, and kids Todd Williamson, Leah Jones, and Broc Gulseth wanted to give back to honor Doug and keep his memory alive.  Doug passed away in November of 2010, and with the help of all who attended the 2020 Dougy Classic, the family donated $2,000 back to the community of Garretson through various organizations.

The family would like to thank the following sponsors that made the Dougy Classic a huge success: Jesse James, Garretson Food Center, Steve’s Electric, Don’s Auto, Sports Cabin, CHS Elevator, River Ridge Golf Club, The Gulch, Make It Mine Designs, and Republic Distributing Company.
