Clarification on last week’s article on the city council

Date:

by Carrie Moritz, Gazette

In the Gazette article last week, we covered concerns that the City Council had regarding reckless and irresponsible behavior. We regret that the article gave the impression that this behavior was occurring among the entire Fire Department, which is incorrect.

Concerns were raised about the behavior of one member of the department, as his actions were seen as reckless and irresponsible, not the department as a whole. The job of the fire department is often thankless, and the volunteers put in many hours to ensure that we have one of the best volunteer fire departments in the state.

The roster was discussed as a formality, as the City covers the workman’s compensation insurance for the Fire Department. The Council passed the roster with the full confidence that the Fire Department will sort out its own issues.

The City and the Fire Department stand together in service to the community.
